Continue to display signals that the business is operating. Consumers don’t expect brands to go “dark”. In a recent Kantar study, 75% of respondents said companies should not exploit the health crisis to promote themselves, but only 8% felt they should stop advertising altogether.
Staying “on” signals normalcy and hope for the future.
Make Every Touchpoint Count
Many brands are now working to a reduced number of touchpoints with their consumers. Leveraging those that remain is crucial. Find ways to show up in consumers’ lives. This may be by taking a renewed focus on the product or packaging.
Or perhaps, for traditional brick and mortar retailers, this is the time to enhance the on-site offering and ensure that content and online customer service can’t be beaten.
Stay In Your Lane
Remain authentic to the brand purpose – in words and in action. This should act as a guiding light to any communications, and determine whether a brand has the authority to communicate about COVID-19. For many – the answer will be no.
